Thomas Jefferson's vision of Independence
Thomas Jefferson copied for James Madison his notes, an account of the events in the Second Continental Congress surrounding the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. Included in Jefferson's autobiography is the unedited Declaration—the version Jefferson wanted adopted—before Congress began amending and editing.
